Event Description
When surrounded by injustice, how do you respond? With public outcry, or private resistance? This is just one of the dilemmas facing the characters of The Price of a Ticket, a historical drama set in Cleveland surrounding the Civil War. Slavecatchers are infiltrating the city, trying to kidnap Black individuals traveling to freedom in Canada. Local barber, John Wheeler, resists being pulled into boisterous activism by the Vigilance Committee for the Abolition of Slavery. Is he trying not to upset his white clientele, or are there deeper reasons for his silence? And how will his reticence affect his romance with a young teacher who wants him to take a stand?
