A new musical about the life of the legendary singer, Phyllis Hyman, entitled “Living All Alone” will feed and satisfy even the most critical theatergoer. This musical production depicts how Phyllis’s life was filled with moments of artistic triumph and personal success, that resonates with many on a very personal level and builds upon the current mental health conversations today.

When Playwright and Director, John L. Ruffin crafted this musical production, he never imagined how great the impact would be on those experiencing or familiar with mental illness. Living All Alone, introducing debut actress, Liberty Clay as Phyllis Hyman travels through the singer’s tumultuous life. A life riddled with perpetual challenges saturated by her addiction to drugs and alcohol.

Actress, Liberty Clay’s powerful, sultry contralto voice captivates audiences. She boldly sets the stage ablaze when signing many melodious tunes from Phyllis’s extensive catalog. Although the music’s lyrics often touched on themes of love and heartbreak, some of Hyman’s songs remain classics that evoke emotions and connect with listeners on a profound level.
