Well-known British actor Paterson Joseph (Wonka) and co-creator/musical director Ben Park perform an enthralling account of a remarkable man’s life in this interactive performance with live music. Born on a slave ship on the Atlantic Ocean in 1729, Charles Ignatius Sancho became a writer, composer, shopkeeper and ‘man of letters’ in 18th century London - and the first man of African Heritage to vote in Britain. The performance is delivered directly to the audience and built around Paterson’s recent novel THE SECRET DIARIES OF CHARLES IGNATIUS SANCHO. With breathtaking charisma, Paterson explores ideas of belonging, language, education, slavery, commerce, violence, politics, music, love and where these themes intersect with Paterson's own story of growing up Black and British. In addition to being an award-winning novelist, Paterson Joseph is known for his work in television and film, and for leading roles with the RSC and in the West End.
