Who do you play in SOME LIKE IT HOT?
I play Ginger in the Ensemble and I also understudy Sweet Sue. Honestly, both tracks are so different that I don’t think I have a favorite. As Ginger I get to work closely with the rest of the ensemble and I’ve loved discovering my version of Ginger and finding really interesting and fun moments with the cast. Sweet Sue is such a strong and bold character. It’s fun finding my inner strength and applying it to the role. She’s also got some really great songs she sings!
How was the rehearsal process?
The rehearsal process was exciting! We rehearsed for about 4-5 weeks in New York learning blocking, music, choreography, lines and spacing. It felt like a fast and furious process for a show of this caliber, but going through it with this group of people made it all so worth it!
How is life on the road? Any favorite spots you’ve visited so far?
I’ve had a blast so far traveling the country. Some of my favorite spots include The Whistling Kettle in Schenectady, NY, and Crave in Minneapolis!
What is your pre-show ritual / warmup?
I always have to do a physical warm up/work out and a vocal workout before the show. I will also use what’s called a nebulizer to help moisturize my vocal chords. During the day I’m sure to drink plenty of water and electrolytes.
What is your favorite moment in the show?
I love the number “Tip Tap Trouble.” It’s this fantastic chase scene that’s so beautifully choreographed by Casey Nicholaw. There’s so many fun and intricate elements to the number. I think it’s one of the most exciting numbers in the show and it feels very rewarding to get to do it every night.
When did you start performing? What was your first role either professional or amateur?
I started performing around the age of six. The first show I ever did was The Wizard of Oz where I played a munchkin!
What piece of advice would you give to young aspiring performers?
I would tell young aspiring artists to connect with the way that they want to tell the story. Storytelling is my favorite element to what we do and every one has a unique way of contributing to this artform. Find what you love and hone in on that.
Is this your first time performing at Playhouse Square?
Yes! And I’m so excited to be performing here!!
Anything planned while you're in Cleveland?
I’m most excited to visit the ‘West Side Market’! I love exploring and trying new foods! I also want to walk around 4th Street for some really great finds. 4th Street seems like a really fun way to spend one of my days off in Cleveland. I will also be sure to stop by ‘The Sweet Spot’ and ‘Mason’s Creamery’ to get my fix of sweets!
