Only in 2020 will you get your Broadway fix from an imaginary TikTok musical.
Broadway and Pixar fans have united in a passion project on TikTok--the social media sharing site--to create Ratatouille the Musical, based on the 2007 Disney/Pixar Film. Only... Ratatouille The Musical doesn't exist.
In August, TikTok user Emily Jacobson (@E_Jaccs) posted a video of herself singing a love ballad for her favorite rat, Remy, the protagonist of the show.
It wasn't long before musical theater fans of the platform transformed the jingle into a full blown, socially-distanced production. Submitting posts under the hashtag #RatatouilleMusical, individual contributors have come up with an answer for nearly every aspect of this musical performance. From set design to marketing, hundreds of users have gotten this fake musical just about ready to take the stage.
As fake audience members, we can only appreciate their creativity and use our own imaginations to bring this fake musical to life.

Making a Musical
TikTok user @danieljmertzlufft put Jacobson's original song into an impressive musical number, complete with captions of what we can expect to see from the ensemble onstage.
But you can't have a musical with just one song...
Yes, this fake musical has gone so far as to reach real broadway star, Kevin Chamberlin (@chamberlin_kevin), who contributed the song "Anyone Can Cook."
User @bowlingforsnails contributed Collette's Training Song.
Choreography
What's a musical without a little choreography? Check out @tristanmichaelmcintyre's creative dance number.
Makeup Department
We're in awe. The talented @morgainemade has makeup covered.
Playbill Concept
Marketing Departments everywhere are salivating over @siswij's Playbill design. Seems like they're ready to take this fake musical to the public.
Ratatouille The [fake] Musical touring at Playhouse Square? 🤞
Murtzluft's post ends with a hopeful "Coming to Broadway in 2021." We'd sure love to see this imaginary musical go on imaginary tour. Perhaps they'll launch the tour in Cleveland shortly after their Broadway debut?
Until then, we'll be following along online.
